After a long and restless night, Eva was ready to approach Shiraz again to volunteer to help him find Earth in any way she could. Two pairs of eyes searching the maps had to be better than one, right? Even if he was a little unsettling, he offered her the best chance of getting home.

She set out to find the turret and soon realized she was lost. The fortress was large and intimidating, and it was difficult to remember where everything was located. She must’ve taken a wrong turn somewhere, because she entered a section she hadn’t yet been to. A glimmering aquatic garden caught her attention, and she opened the door to enter it. It was enclosed in what she would call glass, and she imagined the blooms were sensitive. She moved closer, seeing one of the flowers Vander had given her last night. The night’s events laid heavily on her heart, and as she stroked a finger across the flower, she wished things could be different.

“Welcome. I don’t often get visitors to my private sanctuary.” A lower female voice spoke from behind her.

Eva let out a startled gasp and turned to face the woman. She knew she’d seen her before, but she couldn’t recall her name at that moment. “Am I not supposed to be here? I can leave.”

The woman moved closer, gliding across the room on bare feet. “No, please stay. I’ve been wanting to speak with you. I’m Feltha, the tribe’s shaman. I’m usually the one who finds the matches among our people, but I seem to have had some outside help when it comes to Virgo and Vander.” Her eyes gleamed.

Eva was immediately suspicious. “Do you know Freydon Rote?”

Feltha chuckled. “He’s a charming creature, isn’t he? He came to me for my assistance, assuring me that you were the perfect match for Vander and Virgo. I have a soft spot for those boys, since their mother was my best friend. I immediately agreed to help him in whatever way I could. All I had to do was start the ceremony, and he took care of the rest.”

She felt a glimmer of excitement. “Does that mean you can get me home? Do you know how to open a wormhole?”

Feltha shook her head. “I’m afraid that’s out of my wheelhouse, Eva. I’m here to guide you on how best to make your bonding work with Virgo and Vander, since I know it’s all strange to you.”

Eva collapsed onto a chair beside Feltha. “There won’t be a bonding. They’re arguing over me. I know jealousy isn’t normal among twins sharing a mate, and I can’t let them be split apart.”

Feltha frowned. “It is rather unusual, but I’m confident the solution is simple.”

“Oh?” asked Eva guardedly.

“Once you join with them, the aggression will disappear. They’ll find harmony with you. Right now, the jealousy and discord are caused by an unconsummated bond. I imagine that would happen with any Drakari pair who didn’t have their mate. When a match is identified, consummation takes place, and the union is bonded.
